La fibromialgia es un condición que origina múltiples dolores en varias zonas del cuerpo y que se acompaña de cansancio, fatiga, insomnio, dolores de cabeza. Otro de los síntomas es también la rigidez por las mañanas en las articulaciones, problemas de memoria, problemas emocionales y otros. Es común en las mujeres de mediana edad, si ya tienen como antecedente alguna enfermedad autoinmune como la artritis tienen tendencia a tenerla.

¿Cuáles suelen ser las causas?

Si bien aún no se sabe la causa de esta condición aunque algunos dicen que puede tener factores genéticos, infecciosos y que hasta puede darse por traumas físicos o emocionales.  Se tiene conocimiento de lo que debemos evitar para detonar esta terrible condición como el sedentarismo, el estrés y cualquier actividad que nos genere ansiedad.

Algunos síntomas comunes son:

  • Dolor generalizado por más de tres meses que es leve pero constante y debe darse en todo el cuerpo.
  • Fatiga pese a que haya dormido mucho, siempre despiertan cansados y muchas veces se ve interrumpido su sueño por el dolor o síndrome de piernas inquietas.
  • Dificultades cognitivas, sobre todo al momento de enfocarse  o prestar atención.

¿Cómo se diagnostica?

Para poder diagnosticarla, debemos hacer una rápida visita a nuestro reumatólogo, quien tomará en cuenta los signos y síntomas y la presencia de dolor severo en 3 a 6 zonas del cuerpo con duración de tres meses aproximadamente.

¿Qué implica el tratamiento de esta dolencia?

Parte del tratamiento de esta enfermedad, además de la medicación, es la fisioterapia que se encargará de minimizar el dolor en las zonas frecuentes. Se debe mejorar el alineamiento postural para evitar acortamientos innecesarios. Se evitará contracturas y dolores musculares a través del masaje y diversos agentes físicos. Recobrará la seguridad al movernos, instar a la actividad física y comenzar gradualmente a hacerla parte de nuestra vida diaria. Múltiples estudios muestran los beneficios de la natación en este tipo de pacientes ya que al no generar impacto permite el movimiento de manera suave y armónica.

Finalmente la participación constante de un equipo multidisciplinario permitirá mantener a raya esta condición ya que no tiene cura, pero mejorará la calidad de vida de los pacientes haciéndolos partícipes y conscientes de lo que es la fibromialgia.
